whoever you are

wherever you're from

you count

Every 10 years, everyone living in the United States is counted in the census by the U.S. Census Bureau. The count is used to distribute power at every level of government and distribute more than $675 billion each year to communities across the nation. Decisions about Indy's future – and the dollars for it – come down to counting everyone, especially YOU!

Census participation helps your community.

Political Power

From school boards to the U.S. House of Representatives, the census is used to distribute power to the people.

Community Funding

Over $675 billion in federal funding is distributed to communities across the nation based on the census, supporting everything from education and healthcare to transportation and housing.

Business Investment

Businesses, big and small, use census data to determine where to open up stores and make investments.

Quality of Life Programs

Non-profit and other community organizations use census data to develop, implement, and evaluate their programs.

Census participation is safe and easy.

Completely Confidential

By federal law, individual responses to the census are confidential for 72 years and cannot be shared with anyone, including law enforcement, immigration, tax agencies, or even the President of the United States.

Easy to Complete

In 2020, your household will have the option of responding to the census online, by mail, or by phone. All options are easier than having a U.S. Census Bureau worker knock on your door, which is what happens if you don’t self-respond!
